4th of july food ideas for kids
popcorn recipe
- Pop fresh popcorn – I find it easiest if it’s slightly warm or fresh out of microwave but not necessary
- Melt white chocolate (they make them in larger chunks which I prefer to the small chips)
- Toss the white chocolate and popcorn together. I’ve done this in gallon zip locks or even just in a very large bowl. Careful not to burn your fingers!
- Immediately put in serving bowl or cups and while chocolate is sticky poor on red, white and blue sprinkles.
- Try (I dare you) not to eat it all before your guests come. The mix of sweet and salt is to die for! Kid approved – I tested it!
red + white + blue smoothies
- Combine in a blender frozen strawberries and simple syrup (you can make this fresh or buy store bought.)
- In clean blender combine frozen blueberries and simple syrup.
- Layer in the cups the strawberry mix first.
- Add greek yogurt in the middle.
- Add blueberry mix on top.
- Garden with a fresh strawberry!
- My goal was to make a super yummy smoothie that had some protein in it from the Greek yogurt. My kids loved it!

black eyed pea salad recipe – fun 4th of july food ideas
-
Mix 1/2 teaspoon sea salt and 1 chopped garlic clove in a bowl.
Add vinegar, oil, and cumin, stirring with a whisk. Add tomato and next 4 ingredients (through pepper); toss well. Serve with pita chips.
- Combine 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt, 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar (I prefer garlic rice wine vinegar), 2 tablespoons roasted extra-virgin olive oil and 1 teaspoon ground cumin in the same bowl as garlic and salt.
- Add chopped tomatoes from two large (truthfully, I buy the freshly chopped packages to save time.)
- Add 1/2 cup finely chopped onion (again, I use and buy the pre chopped.)
- Add 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
- Add 1 (15-ounce) can black-eyed peas, rinsed and drained.
- 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and minced.
- Stir up and serve with chips
- This recipe may sound weird, but I’ve adapted it from a Cooking Light recipe and it’s crazy delicious. High in fiber and protein and a really delicious snack I make at least once a month!
enjoy and happy 4th!
