Snapdragons are a fun annual to plant and they remind me of my childhood!
I love how pinching a snapdragon made their mouth open. We would pretend to make them talk to each other!
As you’re considering your spring planters keep these in mind. They come in so many colors (everyone except for blue sadly!). Snapdragons in pots also make an incredible decor piece!
They look gorgeous grouped together with no other annuals. Before you do, remember that snapdragons can be as tall as three feet if you let them!
How to Care for Snapdragons in Pots or Out
They need at least part sun, if not full sun and well draining soil. Clip them to encourage more shoots and blooms.
When you first plant them they like a lot of water the first few weeks while they are getting established. After that, water as you typically would to keep the soil wet.
This is where planting your snapdragons in pots can lead to more success. It’s easier to keep them moist in an more controlled pot.
Water a ton for first few weeks after planting, and then regular normal schedule. Try not to water directly over head, but rather at base of flower.
Snap Dragons May Actually Be Dragons!
For those of you who struggle with deer, my research told me that snapdragons are deer resistant!
A few sites recommended planting them near vegetable gardens to help with deer! Who knew? I didn’t!
We get some deer in our yard, and are planning our first vegetable garden this year so I may make a sweet little border of snapdragons around it!
Beautiful Friday post, gorgeous pictures! Thanks for the great information. I can’t wait for Spring to be here. I’m excited to get going and plant some pretty flowers!! Can we figure out how to keep the pollen away, ha?
Kimberly, great I’m glad you enjoy them! And if you and I can find a way to keep pollen away we will have the BEST BUSINESS EVER!!!! 🙂
