floral bedroom wallpaper
* Thank you to Calico for partnering with me to bring you this post.
We are fortunate enough to have two guest bedrooms. We have a lot of family so it is so nice during the holidays to have room to sleep everyone comfortably! One of our guest rooms had been looking sad since the day we moved in. It had a lot of dark furniture, beige paint and no life to it. While it served it’s purpose fine, it has been lower on the list to complete. Nearly eight years later I’ve started the transformation of updating it in stages. Most recently I updated it using a pattern wallpaper in the bedroom!
Last year I took the first step in updating our guest bedroom. Calico created a gorgeous, custom designed headboard. Just that one small change of going from a dark wood sleigh bed, to a current and soft upholstered headboard made a world of change! I asked Calico to make the headboard in a soft ivory indoor/outdoor fabric. This way I wouldn’t have to worry about it getting dirty. A gray trim and nail heads give it a custom look. This, plus a coat of paint, completely uplifted the room!
For my next step of the transformation we had wallpaper hung in the entire room using Calico wallpaper! Wow! What a gorgeous punch this has made! I used SOLAN Fabricut Wallpaper in Sparrow. It has calming shades of gray, lavender, whites and ivories mixed into a beautiful peaceful design. If you’re surprised I used a purple wallpaper design, don’t be! I wanted this room to standout. We have floral design wallpaper throughout our home. Patterned wallpaper is gorgeous and more versatile than you think!

adding headboard, paint and nightstands
with a purple, floral design wallpaper from Calico!
let’s look at that again!
why bedroom wallpaper?
So many people think wallpaper is outdated. Au contraire! Wallpaper is fabulous, and I’m partial to patterned wallpaper. I have it in at least five rooms in our home. I would wallpaper my entire house if I could! Paper quality and designs have come so far that you can find a look for whatever your goal is – whether it’s to make a large statement on one wall, or find a soothing design that reads like a neutral. Grasscloths are also very popular and stunning. Don’t be afraid to add wallpaper – Calico has gorgeous selections. Find one you have a happy reaction to and let it be the statement piece of your room!
Immediately after having it installed my kids walked in and said “Wow, this is such a fancy room now!” The sophistication and designer look was amplified with this gorgeous paper and laid the groundwork for a soothing, but distinctive bedroom.
Calico has a ton of gorgeous wallpaper collections. I chose the SOLAN, a Fabricut Wallpaper in Sparrow. This paper is actually highly washable. So don’t let the designer look fool you – it’s family friendly!
After installing it I see things I want to change. Remodeling doesn’t always happen at once when you’re working with a budget, right?! I think my next step will to work with Calico on some custom drapery to finish the room and likely change out the nightstands.
Tip: Ask your Wallpaper installer to cover the outlet and light switch covers. A simple thing to do, and creates a seamless look.
Tips from my interior design friends:
Three things change a room: lighting, wallpaper/paint and drapes! Update those and you’ll have a whole new room!
Design for where you’re heading, not for where you’re at. So when budget allows, design for the room you want, even if it doesn’t match what you have. Then the next time you have some allowance in the budget, you can build on the space!
I hope this newly wallpapered guest bedroom will inspire you to use it in your own home!
decor sources
Nightstands, mirrors, bench and ceiling fixture are from Homegoods (similar bench here.) Bedding and drapery is from West Elm. The throw pillows are from One Kings Lane, but are sold out. A fabric tape from Calico was used on the drapes to add a custom look without a custom price just using fabric glue (a little DIY that looks DIY in person.) They’ve been fine but I know custom, professionally made window treatments will create that finished touch! Lamps are available here.
a note about Calico wallpaper
Calico now offers curated new books of designer wallpaper to complement current fabric lines. I looked at all of the books – there are some gorgeous choices in there. What I love the most about Calico is that they have in-home design consultants who can come to your house and help you every step of the way. You get the benefit of gorgeous selection with tailored design help!
Among their designer collections are Candice Olson, Madcap Cottage and DwellStudio. The patterns and colors in each
wallpaper collection complement the designer’s fabric collection. Calico also offers the Magnolia collection from Joanna Gaines and a curated collection from Fabricut! See the full Calico wallpaper collection here.
That room is gorgeous! I love the big mirrors behind the lamps. I’d never think to do that!
