Our daughter was in need of a bathroom makeover. I gave her a bedroom makeover earlier in the year. She has a windowless bathroom, which can be tricky to decorate. We also have high ceilings so custom size shower curtains were the only option. A bathroom for girls can vary in their look. My daughter has a very bold, happy and vibrant personality so she wanted it to be bright! However, I wanted (needed for my brain) to tone down the color that was literally exploding on every square inch! I tried to create a breathable space that pumped up the color but focused it more!
This is what the bathroom looked like when we bought the house (the paint, decor and shower curtain is from the previous homeowner.)

Yikes. That’ll wake you up in the morning!
To start, I used Valspar Chalk paint in Matte finish to cover the ceilings and walls. That alone brightened everything substantially to let the light bounce.
Next I worked with Calico to have a custom shower curtain made in MadCap Cottage fabric. MadCap Cottage fabric is a perfect fit for our daughter! It’s full of color and personality. I actually chose it for her bedroom so it was only fitting to continue with their new fabric line!
MadCap Cottage has a new line of fabrics out so I brought home the book (Calico let’s you do that – it’s awesome!) to let her flip through it. She picked two awesome fabrics – Pera Palace/Marrakech Green as the primary fabric, with Mocambo/Strawberry as the border trim.

custom size shower curtains
Calico helped me pull the shower together. They walked me through how to measure for the appropriate width and height (remember I’m not an interior designer – I have used them for my house but my kids bedrooms are personal to me so I do them myself.) I wanted a border around it to give it more personality. Their custom design team gave me great advice on what the width of the trim should be so that the patterns aligned well. I love that they don’t charge for their design help. It’s a huge benefit!
A quick note about the MadCap ‘gents. They look like ridiculously fun people and I’m dying to meet them. If you love bold color, whimsical patterns and a totally unique look than this is the designer team for you! They probably find my love for simple decor boring, but they’d love my daughter and her flair for the fun, vibrant and happy!
bathroom for girls
A kitten bath mat I found, a green lamp for more light, and a cute metal kitten jewelry holder from her Auntie completed the look!
