fast fashion stinks
This summer I went looking for a white dress, a cheap white dress. Not white dresses cheap in appearance. You know the kind – see through and inappropriate in style. I just wanted a pretty dress that was made well and felt appropriate in style and length. Since I spill things a lot and stain clothes, I just didn’t want to spend too much on it knowing white doesn’t last long in my closet!
Boy am I sounding my age here (38, nearly 39 for the record) when I say that the affordable clothes available these days are downright garbage. Is it me, or is Nordstrom now only catering to the 22 year old girl who shows her bootie and stomach in an inappropriate way? Enough with the crop tops, short shorts and flimsy fabric!
white dresses cheap – but do they have to be cheap looking?
In my search for a cheap white dress I ordered a bunch to see in person. I was shocked! So many items may be affordable but in person they just look cheap. And some of it is still $50-70 and it still looks cheap! Also, what used to be my go to online store, shopbop, is truly disappointing me with how expensive their clothes are. I’ve experimented buying a few summer dresses that I splurged on, only to return them the second I saw them. I was shocked at the quality! No lining, no quality zippers, nothing!
I am going to get into how I make money off of being a blogger in a future post, and explain “the business of blogging” soon, but in the meantime I wanted to rant.
My goal in this site is to share things that I both believe in and I believe will be helpful. That goes for all topics – home, sharing my struggle with depression, clothes I like and ways I decorate for holidays.
I started sharing clothes because my style is very simple and straightforward. I’m not the fashion blogger for sure. But I wanted to share quality clothes I love and looks I love just in case you like my clothing style. I want this site to be a place you trust for my honest opinion and review – because truth? I don’t need the money this blogging thing brings. It’s nice, yes. But my blog is based out of joy and love and not to put food on the table.
cheap white dress that’s not cheap
With that, I’m stepping off my soapbox (and falling to the floor because I can never do anything gracefully) and sharing with you one of the only truly quality dresses I’ve purchased online in awhile. It took a lot of looking for a white dress that met my requirements. I’ve shared it before but I mean it when I say:
- It’s lined very well.
- There are pockets!
- The fabric quality is very good for the price.
- At least 4 followers of mine have purchased it and thanked me for the recommendation.
- It comes in
pink(sold out) and black also.
Note – ladies, to be candid. I’m wearing a push up bra in this. You don’t have to be so “pa-pow” in this dress if you don’t want to. I just personally am working my assets I like (and my husband does) but you could easily wear a normal bra and this dress would look classy and pretty and less “hey, how YOU DOIN’.”
talk with you later, friends.
I would buy this dress in a heartbeat but at under 5′ it hits me at all the wrong spots! The top is way to long and shows my bra from every angle and the midi length looks terrible on me. But looks soooo good on you!
Hey Leslie! I actually had mine altered a bit after taking these photos. Part of the curse (or is it helpful?) of blogging and being on TV is I see myself in a 360 view. So I saw these pics and went ouch! Time to shorten shoulders and bottom a bit! I paid maybe $20 and it fits way better. I’m a big believer in alterations. But I agree – this isn’t suited for your height. I’m 5’5 (I always wear heals and have long legs but a short torso so people usually think I’m taller!) Thanks for letting me know what you think!
