If you’re new to using hot rollers, this video showing you how to use hot curlers will help! I’ll take you from prepping your hair, to putting in the hot rollers to the finished look! We’ll also cover hot roller clips and finding the kind that won’t crease your hair!

When you’re learning how to hot roll hair I highly recommend practicing before you need to rush out the door with your hair done. It may take a few tries to get it down, and I find it easier to do that without the pressure of running to dinner or an appointment!

Learning how to use hot rollers was an absolute game changer for me. I’m a multi-tasker so easy hairstyles are a must for me since I rarely give myself enough time to style my hair!

I LOVE using hot rollers in my hair to create hot roller hairstyles.. There are a lot of reasons why but let me tell you my #1 reason. They make my like EASIER!

Mom’s I know you hear me when I say we want to look our best but don’t seem to find the time. I love using hot rollers because they give me the best of both worlds.

Hot rollers make it it possible to be a multi-tasking working mama!

It’s so easy put the rollers on while I’m making breakfast for the kids, while I’m answering emails, putting on makeup, cleaning. I can do it all!

Having long hair means the weight of a curl can fall flat. I own two different sets of hot rollers. One is a jumbo size for a blow-out style look, the other with various sizes to give me a tighter curl.

Here are the two best hot roller set for long hair (though they could really work for any length, but I find I need a lot of rollers since I have thicker hair.) I’ve owned each of these sets for a gazillion years and they have gone the mile!

I use Babyliss hot rollers for both sets – a phenomenal brand that is reasonably priced and the quality is excellent.

A third of the best hot roller set for long hair is one I use for travel. The T3 Micro hot rollers are great and are compact for easy packing!

I can’t stand it when my hair fall flat. Hot rollers make it easy to get and keep incredible volume in my hair. I’m talking fresh out of the salon volume!

I prefer to use jumbo size rollers to get that round brush blow up look.

You’ll see this look back in style for 2022. The Pepsi commercial Cindy Crawford look is all over the runway.

Hot curlers are great for versatility not just in volume but in the overall look. All it takes is changing up the size of your roller for different hot roller hairstyles and the roller size can change up your hair style with different curl tightness.

If you have layers in your hair it’s especially easy to get that versatile look.

Steps to learning how to use hot curlers:

1. Add dry shampoo to dirty (or clean) hair – I’ve always been told dirty holds curls and style best.
2. Grab the hair you plan on rolling and brush it out – this will give your hair a smooth look when it’s rolled out
3. Roll using clips (I don’t like clips that come with sets — no matter how hard I try they always add marks. I prefer the metal clips.) For this you will want to make sure you lay your hair flat against the rollers, and when you reach the end tuck it cleanly under and add the clip.
4. Let cool completely – Go enjoy some coffee, get the kids ready for school, or relax.
5. Brush out ( I prefer to use a widetooth comb to brush with. This helps keeps volume).
6. Spray it down with some volume blast. I actually use Living Proof volume blast which works great. Shake it, give a few sprays and fluff it out with your hands.

I covered this a little bit above but I want to break it down a little more. When I first started using hot rollers I couldn’t get my angle right or it seemed like it would come out clumpy.

This is why

1. Brushing your hair out first
2. Laying your hair flat on the rollers are so important.

Have you ever curled your hair and it came out looking like a garden hose kink? Same concept here. If you don’t smooth out your hair before it can make it difficult to lay your hair flat when you go for the actual roll.

Remember, when you’re trying to figure out how to put in hot rollers smooth it, and lay it flat!

When I was first learning how to use hot curlers, I made the mistake of using the hot roller clips one of my sets come with. Some sets come with plastic clamp clips and some with metal “U” shaped clips. Personally, I find the “U” shaped metal hot roller clips best.

The plastic clamp, while providing a firm grip, can leave crimp marks on your hair. I try not to use these whenever possible. The “U” shaped clips seems to be the best hot roller clips that don’t leave marks. These are the hot roller clips I think work best, and the bonus is you can find a ton of replacement sets online if you lose any!

With some practice you’ll be able to get the hot roller clips in for a secure hold as you figure out how to  use hot roller clips.

I promise you can figure out how to put in hot rollers like a pro with just a little bit of practice. It really is super easy once you get past the small learning curve.

The hot rollers tutorial I made were specific babybliss pro heated rollers instructions but of course they apply to any hot rollers. I personally think these are some of the best. You may experience a slightly different feel or shape with a different brand but essentially they all go on alike.
